Means that you have to invest more time before you know if you're hit with the variance in difficulty. Unfortunate that the plan is for the rule changes to typically get harder as the game progresses. all enemies get a rock or all enemies get +10% health) will be too easy to be very fun. So either the tougher outcome (two tough challenges behind the offered rule changes) would be too hard to be reasonably possible to win, or the easier outcome (e.g. That satisfies the criteria above for two possible outcomes that have too large of a difference in challenge. Given my current exposure to Bonus Round (about twenty runs), it is IMO too likely to have two possible rule changes (one displayed, one behind the "Random Rule Change") that are both much more difficult than most of the others for most types of runs. Therefore the two outcomes should provide levels of challenge that are sufficiently similar. But then playing under the easier outcome may be too easy to be fun. If you play well enough to win this harder outcome, then it might be very easy to win under the easier outcome. Suppose it should be possible to win the tougher outcome (otherwise it is similar to an instant kill, which I think is pretty clearly poor design). Suppose one of two outcomes can occur at some time midway through the run: one makes the run harder than the other. IMO, significantly decreasing your chance of success randomly mid run is poor design. Some around here call that sadistic.īut some methods of adding difficulty are worse than others. I prefer witch and think witch episode 4 is fun. It would be awesome if you could somehow get a different roll on your possible rule changes.Ī mod that implements more flexible bonus round rule changes would be great too. But you always get the same two possibilities for the next rule change.Īnyone know how to scum away a rule change you don't like? Like how you can exit to title and then come back to retry a fight and get different rolls. One thing you can do is exit to title during the rule change screen (even after choosing the rule) and come back. Losing a dice as Witch or Jester is far too powerful and the cursing totally cripples Chainsaw and other builds that need a particular start. Like losing a dice or getting a curse every turn. But I'm finding the Rule Changes are keeping me from wanting to play simply because of the possibility of a really bad rule change popping up in the middle of a run I'm invested in. I love how the Bonus Round utilizes the entire set of equipment so I was pretty excited to play it a ton.
